We are only a handful of days into training camp in Oxnard, but the Dallas Cowboys' defense has been throwing its weight around and taking the ball away in noticeable numbers.
And not only that ... they are hunting quarterback Dak Prescott.
Dante Fowler Jr. looks superb. Sam Williams, Marshawn Kneeland, and rookie Donovan Ezeiruaku have taken turns jumping off the field, and so new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has quite the rotation there.
And we haven't mentioned Micah Parsons yet.
But what could this group become in 2025? Ezeiruaku has high hopes.
“I think the sky's the limit for this group,” Ezeiruaku said. “We got talent 1,000 percent, God willing, we stay healthy. But, myself, Dante [Fowler], Micah [Parsons], Marshawn Kneeland, Payton Turner, we got James Houston in there. We got guys. We got Sam Williams back. So, we got guys. The sky's the limit.”
Given how the season panned out last year, it is easy to forget that the Cowboys posted the third-most sacks in football (52.0), and that was with DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons missing big chunks of the season.
Now, as we look to 2025, with Eze, Micah, a revitalized Williams, and Fowler Jr., the Cowboys might just have themselves quite the pass rush.
Yes, we know about the takeaways and the reported goal of having 40 for the season, but if what we have seen throughout the first few days in Oxnard is that this pass rush has some serious juice.
Of course, when the pads come on today in Oxnard, we will get a true indication of what Eberflus has to work with, but right now, good things are happening.
What could it eventually become?
Sky's the limit, according to Donovan.
