Fire Country Spinoff Sheriff Country Cast, Release Date, Spoilers

Three seasons in, Fire Country is due for a shakeup, with almost all of the CBS series’ original cast members still remaining on the show. But which cast member could be the first to leave? All signs point to Station 42 Captain (and Edgewater’s resident loverboy) Jake Crawford.

Is Jake leaving Fire Country?

There’s been speculation that Jake is leaving Fire Country for a while now. The speculation started in Season  3, Episode 11, “Fire and Ice,” CalFire Division Chief Sharon Leone suspended Jake for disobeying her orders to evacuate a mountain fire because of her plan to do a water dump that would’ve melted enough snow to cause an avalanche.

Jake’s decision to disobey Sharon came after he told CalFire Battalion Chief Vince Leone about his desire to also become Battalion Chief someday, which Vince told him wouldn’t happen unless he was dead. That’s when Jake realized that he would never move up the ladder at CalFire with Vince around, as he still saw him as the same kid who would hang around the fire station with his late father instead of the full-fledged firefighter he’d grown up to be. The episode ended with Jake calling Luke Leon, Vince’s brother and another CalFire Battalion Chief, about when he would know it’s time to leave Station 42.

The speculation continued in Season 3, Episode 18, “Eyes and Ears Everywhere,” which saw Jake get a job offer at a firehouse in Butte County whose battalion chief was retiring soon. While Vince later learned of Jake’s offer and the two made amends, Vince maintained that there was no promotion available in Jake’s immediate future. “Well then, Chief, I guess this is my two weeks’ notice,” Jake said, to which Vince toasted to his future in Butte.

So is Jake leaving Fire Country? As of writing, CBS and Jordan Calloway, who has played Jake since Season 1, haven’t confirmed Jake’s exit from the series, but all signs point that way. Jake’s storyline on Fire Country has for sure slowed down ever since the show moved on from the love triangle between Jake, Gabriela Perez and Bode Leone, and moved on to the love triangle between Bode, Gabriela, and James. (Not to mention the short-lived love triangle between Gabriela, Bode and her ex-fiance Diego Moreno.)

Max Thieriot as Bode Leone, Jordan Calloway as Jake Crawford, and Jared Padalecki as Camden Casey on Fire Country

And while Fire Country has hinted at a reunion between Jake and Gabriela, especially after their car hookup earlier in the season, it doesn’t seem like the show is officially heading in that direction, which doesn’t give Jake as much to do as other characters on Fire Country.

What is possible to give Jake the best of both worlds — make him a battalion chief while remaining in the Fire Country universe — is to move him to CBS’ upcoming Fire Country spinoff, Fire Country: Surfside, led by Jared Padalecki’s Camden Casey. Moving Jake to Fire Country: Surfside would not only give fans a familiar face to tune into for the spinoff (along with Padalecki who had a guest stint on Fire Country Season 3), but it would also allow for his character to grow in ways that Fire Country no longer can provide. Whether CBS actually makes that happen is another question.
