Dallas Cowboys Jerry Jones is making no secret of his admiration for a coach who will be on the opposing sideline on Sunday in Washington.
No, not just Dan Quinn, the Commanders new head coach who worked for Jones as Dallas' defensive coordinator for the previous three years.
The coach in this case is Kliff Kingsbury, Quinn's offensive coordinator.
"I think a lot of him, he's a friend," Jones said of Kingsbury via 105.3 The Fan. "I think he's done an outstanding job every place he's been. I really think a lot of him and I think that he was ideal in working with the young quarterback."
Kingsbury is now supervising a rookie franchise quarterback in Jayden Daniels and most famously mentored Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech on the way to becoming the Chiefs superstar QB.
In play today, according to a source close to the situation?
"This game is a sort of ‘audition' for (Kingsbury)," the source tells CowboysCountry.com.
Meaning, of course, that the Texas native Kingsbury has a chance to showcase himself in this game in front of Jones, who is likely to move on from head coach Mike McCarthy after this "Blow It Up" season.
McCarthy is about to be out of contract with 3-7 Dallas. Kingsbury, who was a head coach in Arizona, may be about to get another shot.
Jones and his Cowboys are about to get a front-row seat to see Kingsbury the coordinator … and to see Kingsbury the candidate.
