- Chakotay's backstory was revealed on Star Trek: Voyager, but his homeworld didn't get an official name in canon until Star Trek: Prodigy.
Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 has revealed the name of Captain Chakotay's (Robert Beltran) homeworld 29 years after Star Trek: Voyager began. Chakotay, who is of Native American descent, told Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) on Voyager that hehails from a planet near the Cardassian border that his people moved to generations prior. Robert Beltran returns as Captain Chakotay in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, where he joins the heroic Starfleet hopefuls of the USS Protostar to save every Star Trek's timeline and reunite with Admiral Janeway.
In his X account, Jörg Hillebrand (@gaghyogi49), who was a renowned researcher for Star Trek: Picard season 3, has been compiling the deep-cut Star Trek Easter eggs throughout Star Trek: Prodigy season 2. Hillebrand shared Star Trek: Prodigy's confirmation that Chakotay's homeworld is named Trebus. This makes Trebus, the name given to Chakotay's home planet by Star Trek: Voyager showrunner Jeri Taylor in her 1998 novel "Star Trek: Voyager: Pathways" official canon. Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 Brings Back Chakotay At His Best
Robert Beltran gives his best Star Trek performance as Captain Chakotay
Captain Chakotay is at the center of the time and space-distorting events of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, and Robert Beltran has never been better in his iconic role. Rescuing Captain Chakotay from imprisonment in Solum's alternate future is the flashpoint that kicks off Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, but once Dal R'El (Brett Gray) and his friends find Chakotay, the Star Trek: Voyager hero emerges as more complex and fascinating than ever before. Stranded on the planet Ysida with the USS Protostar for 10 years, Chakotay showed stunning new facets as Star Trek: Prodigy's young heroes inspired him to find his best self once more.
Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's episode "Cracked Mirror" had Chakotay pose as his Mirror Universe counterpart, complete with a fake goatee.
Robert Beltran has been critical of Star Trek: Voyager in the past, feeling the series' episodic "resets" denied Chakotay and other characters the chance to become more well-rounded. However, it's clear from his performance voicing Captain Chakotay in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 that Beltran embraced this second chance at Chakotay with gusto. Chakotay becomes an even greater hero and inspiration in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, while touching on genuine heartfelt emotion that's astounding for an animated series. Hopefully, Robert Beltran can return as Captain Chakotay if Star Trek: Prodigy season 3 happens.
