Paramount+ may be the home of new Star Trek series like Discovery, Strange New Worlds, and the upcoming Starfleet Academy, but to see the Enterprise's classic big-screen adventures, you'll need to explore a more distant system. TrekMovie.com reports that the first ten Star Trek movies are now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
That includes the six movies starring William Shatner's Captain Kirk and his Enterprise crew: 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture, 1982's Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, 1984's Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, 1986's Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, 1989's Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. It also includes the four films that continued the adventures of Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard and his crewmates from The Next Generation: 1994's Star Trek: Generations, 1996's Star Trek: First Contact, 1999's Star Trek: Insurrection, and 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis.
What Are the 'Star Trek' Movies About?
Taking place some time after the events of The Original Series, The Motion Picture reunites the now-Admiral Kirk with his crew and a newly refitted Enterprise as they go on the hunt for a deadly mystery. Over the course of the subsequent five films, Kirk finds (and then loses) a son, loses (then finds) his best friend Spock, and orders the Enterprise's destruction before being given command of a new incarnation of the famous ship. Along the way, he confronts an old enemy, travels back to Earth's past, and helps make peace with the dreaded Klingons. Kirk handed things off to Picard's next generation in Generations, when the two captains team up to battle a galactic menace. The new crew's next three cinematic adventures had them follow the horrific Borg to a crucial point in Earth's history, defy the Federation to save an endangered colony, and face off against a dark reflection of Picard himself.
Not making the move to Prime are the three "Kelvin timeline" Star Trek movies starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldaña: Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond. They will remain on Paramount+, and only time will tell if a long-awaited fourth film will join them. Paramount has made numerous attempts to bring Trek back to the big screen since Beyond premiered in 2016, but none of them have yet made it out of spacedock.
All ten original Star Trek movies are now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Stay tuned for future updates.
