Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Reveals Main Character Names & Species

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy revealed the character names, species, and academic focus of the show's main characters, many of whom are assigned to the USS Athena.

• Academy Award winner Holly Hunter plays Nahla Ake, the Chancellor of Starfleet Academy and Captain of the USS Athena, who also happens to be a long-lived half-Lanthanite.
• Sandro Rosta plays Caleb Mir, a human orphan with a troubled past and an unlikely Starfleet cadet who is Starfleet Academy's POV character.
• Karim Diané is Jay-Den Kraag, a Klingon Starfleet cadet who dreams of becoming a medical officer.
• Kerrice Brooks is Series Acclimation Mil, a.k.a. Sam, a Kasqian, and the first of her kind to ever attend Starfleet Academy.
• George Hawkins is Darem Reymi, a Khionian and an aspiring captain from a wealthy homeworld.
• Bella Shepard is Genesis Lythe, a member of the Dar-Sha species and an admiral’s daughter determined to make her own name in Starfleet.
• Zoë Steiner as Tarima Sadal, a Betazoid and daughter of the president of Betazed.

Besides human, Klingon, and Betazoid, Starfleet Academy's Khionan, Kasqian, and Dar-Sha are species new to Star Trek.

Also confirmed as part of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's cast are:

• Robert Picardo, reprising his iconic role as The Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Prodigy.
• Tig Notaro, reprising her role as Commander Jett Reno from Star Trek: Discovery.
• Oded Fehr, reprising his role as Admiral Charles Vance from Star Trek: Discovery.
• Recurring guest star Gina Yashere as Commander Lura Thok, a Klingon/Jem’Hadar hybrid who is the chancellor’s First Officer and Cadet Master.
• Recurring guest star and Academy Award nominee, Paul Giamatti, as part Klingon, part Tellarite Nus Braka, the season’s villain with an ominous past connected to one of our cadets.
• Other members of Starfleet Academy's cast are Mary Wiseman as Lieutenant Sylvia Tilly, Tatiana Maslany as an unknown character, and WWE Superstar Becky Lynch (Rebecca Quin) as an unknown character.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy looks sensational, judging by this first teaser trailer. With Oscar caliber actors like Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti, Star Trek legacy characters like Robert Picardo as The Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager and Tig Notaro returning as Commander Jett Reno from Star Trek: Discovery, and incredible production values, including filming on the largest sets ever built for Star Trek, Starfleet Academy is pulling out all the stops.

While the trials and relationships of the young Cadets will be Starfleet Academy's focus, the numerous nods to Star Trek's past are a boon to Trekkers. From the James T. Kirk Pavilion, to the wall of Starfleet legends, to the lesson of what happened to Captain Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's reverence for the past is as welcome as its mission to boldly create the next great Starfleet Officers of the future.
