Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' co-showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, joined by stars Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck, discussed the series' future at San Diego Comic-Con. Akiva Goldsman: We will continue on for as long as Paramount lets us. We will drive right into The Original Series .
In an interview with Collider, which also included the cast and executive producer of Star Trek: Lower Decks, Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers elaborated on their plan to link up Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to Star Trek: The Original Series if Paramount allows them to. Read their quotes and watch Collider's video interview below:
Henry Alonso Myers: Episode by episode and season by season and really try to treat everything like, “If this was our last episode, what would it be?” We want to do the best version of everything. If this was all we got to do, what are the cool things that we will be really upset that we never got to do? We look at every season like that.
Akiva Goldsman : Left to our own devices, which really means if Paramount will, we’ll keep going into the TOS era. And we know how. That’s the hope, but as Henry said, nothing is assured. So we come from a conservative place with great aspirations.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Is Putting TOS Pieces In Place
Nearly everyone from Captain Kirk's Enterprise is on Strange New Worlds
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has not been shy about its connective tissue to Star Trek: The Original Series. Captain Christopher Pike's (Anson Mount) USS Enterprise crew has numerous TOS characters aboard, like Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck), Ensign Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), and Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) as well as new characters like Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) and Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia). Scotty (Martin Quinn) joins the Enterprise as a regular in Strange New Worlds season 3.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set roughly 5-6 years before Star Trek: The Original Series.
The only major Star Trek: The Original Series characters still waiting to appear in Strange New Worlds are Dr. Leonard McCoy, Hikaru Sulu, and Pavel Chekov. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds may seem like its rushing to weave in TOS icons, but the prequel hopes to go many seasons before the time inevitably comes for Captain Pike to pass the Enterprise over to the future Captain James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley). Hopefully, that moment, which will answer what happens to characters like Number One (Rebecca Romijn), La'an, and Ortegas, won't happen for years to come.
