Strange New Pod interviewed Anson Mount on the red carpet of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' season 3 premiere at Tribeca Film Festival. Mount was asked about how he feels regarding Strange New Worlds entering its fifth and final season, and he expressed that the end of his time as Captain Christopher Pike is "bittersweet," but his privilege of growing in that role is a benefit of long-form television storytelling. Read Anson's quote and watch the video below:
First of all, it feels like, ‘Wait. Five seasons? How did that happen?” And it’s bittersweet. It’s like when I ended Hell on Wheels. You can sort of step back and go, ‘Okay, that was a chapter.’ I really grew with that role. That’s what I love about long-form television. You don’t get that amount of growth in any other medium. You don’t have the same challenges in any other medium… I really love it.

Mount Thanked William Shatner And Others For Strange New Worlds
When Paramount+ and CBS Studios announced Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' fifth and final season, Anson Mount took to his Instagram and social media to express how grateful he is to play Captain Pike. Mount credited William Shatner's portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series as his inspiration, as well as executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, and Henry Alonso Myers, Sonequa Martin-Green of Star Trek: Discovery, and the Star Trek fans.
As Anson Mount stated, five seasons is an achievement in television's current streaming era. Mount has led a series, Hell on Wheels, and has weathered its cancellation before. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' end may be in sight, but the show is still filming. Strange New Worlds season 4 is still in production, and the cast and crew will return later this year to lens Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 5. Even after the actors wrap the series, fans will still have two seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to look forward to.
Our Take On Anson Mount's Reaction To Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Ending
Pike Will Be Remembered As THE Captain Of Star Trek's Paramount+ Era
In many ways, Anson Mount was the Captain Star Trek fans were waiting for ever since Star Trek's revival on Paramount+ began. From the moment that Anson Mount came aboard Star Trek: Discovery as Pike, fans were enamored by his authority combined with compassion and intelligence. Mount's Captain Pike was both a throwback to the classic idea of a Star Trek Captain but also a very modern interpretation who valued and listened to his crew, and weighed decisions carefully to do the right thing, even if it defies regulations.
Captain Pike is already regarded as the Captain of Star Trek on Paramount+'s era, with all due respect to Sonequa Martin-Green's Captain Michael Burnham and others like Patrick Stewart's Admiral Jean-Luc Picard. Anson Mount has stretched his acting muscles on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, occasionally delving into comedy and even singing. While the looming end of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is, indeed, bittersweet, between the next three seasons, there are still 26 episodes of Captain Pike leading the Starship Enterprise to come.
