“Start Him Over Quay!”: Green Bay Packers Fans Excited Over Edgerrin Cooper Winning NFC Defensive Player Of the Week

Green Bay Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper was a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft from the Texas A&M Aggies. Cooper has worked his way into the defense slowly this season.

However, he played a huge role in the 30-27 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. Edgerrin Cooper was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Against Jacksonville, he recorded eight tackles, had a strip sack, and also a pass defended.

Green Bay Packers Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper Only Played 34 Snaps

According to packers.com editor Mike Spofford, Coope only played 34 snaps in the game, which was 60% of the team’s total. Spofford also added:

“Early in the fourth quarter, Cooper knocked the ball from Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence’s hand while sacking him near the goal line, and teammate DL Devonte Wyatt recovered. The Packers quickly scored on offense to take a 10-point lead.

Then later in the fourth, after bluffing a blitz at the line, he sprinted back 40 yards downfield to break up a deep ball intended for WR Christian Kirk, leading to a punt.

He also assisted LB Eric Wilson on a tackle for loss of RB Tank Bigsby on third-and-2 in the first half, forcing Jacksonville to punt.”

It is going to be interesting to see if Edgerrin Cooper will be more involved in the Packers’ defense moving forward. They have a bunch of young talent on this roster thanks to the drafting by general manager Brian Gutekunst.
