Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger Takes Massive Shot From Patrick Mahomes' Camp

Mahomes will turn 30 years old at the start of the 2025 regular season, which is usually around when quarterbacks reach the end of their prime. It is not true for every player, but most players start to see their production decline around 30 or 31. Bobby Stroupe suggested that Roethlisberger stopped working out once he got to this point, which he said in defense of Mahomes.

This shot was kind of disrespectful and completely unnecessary. All Roethlisberger said was that Mahomes is probably leaving his prime soon, which was his own personal opinion. He didn't say anything personal about Mahomes, and he didn't say anything specifically about his game. He also went on to say that Mahomes is entering himself into the GOAT argument, which is a clear compliment. 

Mahomes' trainer has been public with his opinions about other things happening in the league before. He once went on a rampage discussing his disdain for the Cincinnati Bengals, and he has always publicly voiced opinion about the Chiefs and Mahomes. Roethlisberger's comment was taken way too far, and taking a shot at a quarterback that has been retired for three whole seasons is a bit sad.

Roethlisberger may have won all of his Super Bowls earlier in his career, but he was still a productive quarterback later on. His work ethic has always been questioned, but an accusation of never working out after turning 30 is a bit wild. It also suggests that Roethlisberger was not good during that time of his career, but that could not be further from the truth. Roethlisberger turned 30 ahead of the 2012 season, and he went on to throw for over 37,000 yards, 253 touchdowns, and just 111 interceptions throughout the remainder of his time in the league. He also led the Steelers to the playoffs often later on in his career, which is an accomplishment despite the lack of success in the postseason.
