Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr praises cornerback room: ‘We can really take this over’

The Steelers’ star likes where the unit is going

The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the finest cornerbacks in the NFL in Joey Porter Jr. The second-year star is primed to take another step forward after already proving to be one of the best in the NFL at his position. But Porter himself sees potential in the room as a whole.

When asked about the likes of Cory Trice and Darius Rush, Porter couldn’t speak higher of his cornerback counterparts.

“Man, they’ve been doing great so far,” Porter said. “I keep telling those guys every day, ‘We can really take this over if we just keep stacking days and doing what we’re supposed to do.’”

Trice missed his entire rookie year with a torn ACL, but has reiterated that he feels good and will be 100 percent by training camp and the regular season.

Rush had a tremendous showing throughout the nine OTAs sessions, and told Behind The Steel Curtain that while this unit is a young one, that gives them an advantage in today’s NFL.

“We’re a young group, but in today’s league you need young, fast guys to keep up with these receivers,” Rush said. “And we definitely have that.”

The Steelers also added Cam Sutton to a room that also features veterans Donte Jackson and Anthony Averett, as well as undrafted rookie Beanie Bishop. Should this group reach its potential, this would be the best secondary the Steelers have had in quite sometime.
