Steelers' Ex-Rival Jeremiah Moon Is Comfortable With His Role In Pittsburgh: 'It’s The Same'

The Pittsburgh Steelers claimed former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jeremiah Moon off waivers in January 2024. Moon, who went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, spent the 2022 season participating in preseason games before being relegated to the Ravens' practice squad. He remained with the Ravens in 2023, playing in eight games, recording 12 tackles, and forcing two fumbles. He started only one game that season.

While Moon may not be the most sought-after young prospect, he had a standout college career at Florida and has shown improvements as an NFL player in his short career. Soon to turn 26, he will compete for playing time behind stars TJ Watt, Alex Highsmith, and the rising Nick Herbig. Although Moon is unlikely to play a major role on the Steelers' defense, he is expected to make an impact on special teams and provides solid depth. Acquiring a player from a rival team is always a plus.

Moon spoke with Steelers reporter Chris Adamski of Trib Live about the role he expects to play in Pittsburgh, expressing his readiness to contribute in any way the organization needs.

“I am definitely enjoying it here. I’ve been able to learn from the (outside linebackers), Alex (Highsmith) and T.J. (Watt) and all the guys who have been here. It’s nice to learn new things, and I definitely feel I can fit into this defense and on special teams. I am just here to help any way I can.”

Moon is fortunate to have stars like Watt and Highsmith to learn from. He also mentioned that the Steelers' coaches have significantly helped him improve his game.

“We’re dropping (in coverage) and rushing. It’s the same,” Moon said. “I love my coaches. They have been showing me out a lot, especially with the playbook and sharpening up my skills and everything. You just learn bits and pieces from different people and just keep moving forward.”

Moon joins the Steelers along with another former Raven, defensive back DeShon Elliott. The Steelers' most significant acquisition this offseason came from the Ravens in free agency when they signed Patrick Queen to a three-year deal worth $41 million. Interestingly, Queen played a role in recruiting Elliott to Pittsburgh. While Queen is expected to have the biggest impact, Elliott will also play a crucial role in the secondary. Moon’s role will be smaller, but he is eager to make his mark in the Steel City.

Moon believes that the Steelers and Ravens share similar defensive philosophies, which makes his transition smoother. He is comfortable with his new role and excited for the regular season. The Steelers' linebacker room is exciting, and Moon is seen as an under-the-radar sleeper addition. Although he is still a raw player with untapped potential, the hope is that the Steelers can help him realize his full impact in Pittsburgh.

Steelers' Defense Is Expected To Be One Of The Best In 2024

The Steelers' defense is filled with playmakers across the field, boasting both depth and star power in every area. As the highest-paid defense in football, they are expected to shine. For the Steelers to become a dominant force, unexpected role players like Moon stepping up and making an impact will be crucial. Steelers fans are hopeful that Moon can surprise everyone in 2024 with his performance.

Moon, eager to prove the Ravens wrong for letting him go, joins other former Ravens on the Steelers who are also seeking revenge against their old team. This adds an exciting twist to the storied rivalry between the Steelers and the Ravens.
