If Mike Tomlin were not already on the hot seat in Pittsburgh, then there are some fans who would like to change that.
A Steelers superfan named Kevin Adams is claiming responsibility for a billboard that has gone up near Boulevard of the Allies in Pittsburgh. The billboard reads: “The standard is mediocrity. Trade Tomlin or sell the team, Rooney! We’ve had enough.”
The word “enough” is underlined on the billboard, with the letters all written in upper case. The ad says it is paid for by Kevin Adams.
Adams addressed the matter after his billboard drew attention.
“You don’t have to like me or the way I choose to celebrate the Steelers. But I’ll always stand on what I believe in, and I put my money where my mouth is. Will change happen because of this? No. But it won’t stop me from letting our voices be heard,” Adams wrote on X in response to the billboard.
Steelers fans are incredibly passionate, and many of them have grown frustrated with Tomlin. The billboard from Adams reflects those feelings.
Tomlin has been the team’s head coach since 2007 and won the Super Bowl in his second season. He won the AFC North three times in his first four seasons and has won it seven times overall. The 52-year-old has been lauded for never once having a losing season, but Steelers fans have grown frustrated with the coach. They note that the team has not won a playoff game since 2016, and it bothers them knowing they are not a real championship contender.
Furthermore, fans feel like the Steelers’ offense just isn’t good enough. Then there has also been some recent criticism of Tomlin’s defenses, which have historically been his calling card.
The Steelers have not found an answer at quarterback ever since Ben Roethlisberger started to age. They tried Kenny Pickett, but that didn’t work. Then they tried the combination of Justin Fields and Russell Wilson this season. What will Pittsburgh try next?
