The Pittsburgh Steelers did something that many have speculated they would do for a while now and traded away their best wide receiver.
The team traded George Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. This gives the Cowboys someone to put next to CeeDee Lamb, and gives the Steelers more draft capital for the future.
Many have questioned whether or not the deal was a food idea for the Steelers, but the team's general manager, Omar Khan, justified the move in a short and sweet manner.
"This trade made sense for everyone," Khan told reporters in Friday's press conference.
Pickens was drafted by the Steelers with the 52nd overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and has been making highlight plays for the team for the last three seasons.
But behind closed doors, there were reportedly some locker room struggles going on that were too much for the team to handle, and that may have been a pretty big factor in Pittsburgh eventually moving on from the former Georgia Bulldog.
Pickens finished this past season with 900 yards and three touchdowns in just 14 games. He missed three games due to a hamstring strain, but he will be looking to bounce right back from that and stay on the field in 2025.
The Steelers may learn to regret this move down the road, but for the time being, Khan and the rest of the team seem satisfied with how everything played out, as it could improve the locker room chemistry.
