Steelers Great Ben Roethlisberger Trolls Aaron Rodgers During His Podcast

The only clarity that the Pittsburgh Steelers and their fans gained from Aaron Rodgers' latest interview was that there was no timeline for when he would be ready to make a deal. The saga is expected to continue on for the foreseeable future, and there is no guarantee that he even signs anywhere. It seems like Pittsburgh is willing to wait as long as it takes for him to make up his mind, but all that would do is make Steeler Nation even more restless.

Part of Rodgers' interview was him talking about the rumors and how they were all false. He called out Ben Roethlisberger specifically for his theory about waiting for another team to call him up. His point was that all the talk surrounding him were just false rumors, and that no one actually knows what he is going through at this time.

On the latest episode of Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, the former Steelers quarterback opened the show by taking a little shot at Rodgers, but it could have also made some fans get a little bit antsy.

"Welcome back to Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger. I am Ben, he is Spence. I was just on the phone with Aaron Rodgers. I had -- no, I'm just joking, I really wasn't," said Roethlisberger.

Rodgers was clearly not a fan of all the speculation around him, so Roethlisberger joked about talking to him directly to get the facts straight. Obviously, the two quarterbacks did not have much beef with each other back when they were seen at or near the top of the mountain in their heydays, so it doesn't really hurt to throw a little jab in there.

At the end of the day, Roethlisberger is still a Steelers fan, even though he is no longer on the team. He understands the frustrations that everyone else is going through: does Rodgers actually want to be in Pittsburgh? It feels like the team is being toyed with, and that is embarrassing for all parties involved, including the people that support this organization through and through.

Steelers Fans Get Jabbed A Bit As Well

On the other hand, fans still want updates every way they can. If there is something new being reported about the Rodgers saga, everyone will be glued to their screens to see what is happening, like with him finally appearing on camera to talk about everything that has been going on with his life via The Pat McAfee Show. People want to know who will be starting in Pittsburgh as soon as possible.

That is exactly why Roethlisberger's co-host, Spencer Te'o, told him to be careful after he said that. It sounded like there was going to be some immediate breaking news before he said it was a joke. That's one way to get everyone's hopes up only to quickly disappoint them. No conversation was ever had, and they moved on to talk about other topics.

At least Roethlisberger didn't put anything related to Rodgers in the title of his podcast. That definitely would have gotten everyone riled up with the potential news that ends up being nothing. It was just a quick little joke to take a shot at Rodgers while trolling the fan base a little bit. A little bit of clean fun doesn't hurt.

As of now, everything is business as usual. Rodgers still has not made a decision on his future, and the Steelers are still going into draft day with no idea on who will be their starting quarterback in 2025. There will likely be no update until Rodgers actually makes up his mind once and for all. There is no timeline for when that will happen, as the 41-year-old said himself. Until then, veteran Mason Rudolph is penciled in as the guy.
