Steelers Have AFC Trade Partner Emerging As Quarterback Situation Continues To Cause Chaos

As the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to wait for a decision from four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers in free agency, the team finds itself at the center of multiple trade rumors around the league. With Mason Rudolph currently projected to start Week 1, the Steelers are expected to acquire a starting caliber quarterback from either the free agency or trade markets. Should Rodgers opt towards retirement, the Steelers will be expected to evaluate multiple quarterbacks that are currently available on the trade market. One name that continues to emerge as a potential fit in Pittsburgh is Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis.

Levis, who instantly became the Titans' backup quarterback when the team drafted Cam Ward, is a young player with two years of professional experience. Despite a rocky start to his NFL career, Levis is a player that may prove to be worthy of trading for. Starting 17 total games over two seasons for Tennessee, Levis has flashed major signs of potential and could be the perfect fit under head coach Mike Tomlin and Arthur Smith.

As rumors surrounding the Steelers continue to circulate around the league, Bleacher Report writer Moe Moton suggested a potential trade that would send Levis to Pittsburgh.

"Regardless of the Aaron Rodgers' decision to play for the Steelers or retire, Pittsburgh should offer a fourth-round pick for Levis. Rodgers will turn 42 in December. At this point, he's a year to year player. Levis has two years left on his rookie deal," Moton wrote. "If the Steelers finish the 2025 season with a mediocre record and Rodgers only sticks around for one year, they would at least have an experienced young starter in Levis, whom they can develop for the long term. In seven seasons, Mason Rudolph has been a game manager. At 25, Levis, with his big arm and mobility, has far more upside."

While trading for Levis may seem unrealistic to some, the Titans quarterback has an excellent relationship with Rudolph, as they both played together in Tennessee last year. Levis was widely expected to be a trade candidate throughout the entire offseason, as selecting Ward with the first overall pick solidified the rookie as the team's starting quarterback.

Levis would prove to be a major beneficiary of Rodgers' presence should the veteran quarterback sign with Pittsburgh as well, as the future Hall Of Famer would be an excellent mentor for both Levis and rookie Will Howard.

Steelers Face Similar Issues At Quarterback And Wide Receiver

While the Steelers find themselves with depth issues in the quarterback room, the team faces the same problem in the wide receiver room as well. Despite trading for star wide receiver DK Metcalf earlier in the offseason, the Steelers have no real receiver depth outside of the former Seattle Seahawk.

Calvin Austin lll continues to emerge as a potential wide receiver two option, as Pittsburgh is reported to have very high expectations for the young wide out entering 2025. With the entire Steelers wide receiver room consisting of Metcalf, Austin lll, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods, the Steelers may look to evaluate their options in free agency, as multiple veteran receivers remain available on the market.

As the Steelers and the rest of the football world continue to wait for a decision from Rodgers, Levis may emerge as a top target for Tomlin and his coaching staff. Levis, who flashed major signs of his playmaking ability last season, is expected to be pursued by multiple teams before the season kicks off.

With no real shot at the starting job in Tennessee, the Titans are expected to ask for a mid to late-round pick in exchange of the young quarterback. Fans should continue to keep an eye on both Rodgers and Levis, as the two quarterbacks are more than likely to be on the move in the near future.
