Following the trade of George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, it's open season in the Pittsburgh Steelers' WR room.

Steelers may have struck gold with UDFA wide receiver after he unveiled what Pittsburgh told him following the 2025 NFL Draft

Not drafting a weapon, yet deciding to part ways with Pickens raised a lot of eyebrows as it pertains to the options on the Steelers' perimeter.

But the Steelers brass have been open in their likeness of the room, and that includes rookie UDFA Roc Taylor, who is ready to assume a role for the Steelers...

Roc Taylor looking to fill a need

“They [Pittsburgh Steelers brass] just told me there’s spots to be filled, and they need people to come in and perform and put in the work to earn that spot," Taylor told the media during rookie minicamp over the weekend. "I took that as a challenge to come in, work as hard as I can and try to earn a role on the team.”

While it would be rich to assume that a UDFA from Memphis will overtake the role that George Pickens left behind, he fits that mold given his size, speed, and playstyle. He's a vertical stretch player who produced for a top 25 team during his college tenure.

He has to become better at freeing himself up off the line of scrimmage and he doesn't have the most natural hands, but it's obvious that between his comments and those of Omar Khan, the team is confident in him...

“We wouldn't have done this [George Pickens trade] if we didn't feel good about the receiver situation, about our depth here, said Khan at rookie minicamp. "I know people make the comparison about last year; it's not even close to being the same.”

I tend to disagree with Omar Khan, as the team is a DK Metcalf sprained ankle away from the worst WR corps in the NFL (don't give me the Robert Woods signing) but perhaps Roc Taylor can prove them right, and prove every team that didn't draft or sign him wrong.

Expect him to be a consistent talking point throughout minicamp and into training camp as he attempts to make the final 53-man roster.
