Steelers Mentioned As Top Landing Spot For Very Productive Wide Receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been mentioned in trade talks and rumors with virtually every single wide receiver at this point. These discussions began after the Steelers decided to trade away star wide receiver Diontae Johnson early in the 2024 offseason. This move raised concerns among fans and pundits regarding the lack of depth in the wide receiver room following George Pickens. Now, with the passing game poised to open up even further under Russell Wilson's leadership, the urgency within Steeler Nation to execute a trade and enhance the wide receiver corps has reached an all-time high.

As the trade deadline approaches, options are beginning to dwindle, leading Steelers fans to anxiously anticipate whether General Manager Omar Khan will make a significant move. The situation has fans engaged, watching closely to see if a deal will materialize that addresses their pressing need for reliable receiving options. The potential impact of any new acquisition could be substantial, as the Steelers aim to capitalize on Wilson's playmaking ability and the offensive strategy implemented by Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith.

In light of these developments, Dallas Robinson, a writer for Pro Football Network, floated a hypothetical trade that could make a lot of sense for the Steelers. He suggests that Pittsburgh could trade a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. This trade would not only bolster the receiving corps but also provide Pickens with some real help to take some pressure off of him.

"Jakobi Meyers should be on Pittsburgh’s radar heading into the deadline," Robinson wrote. "The Las Vegas Raiders wideout’s prowess in the short and intermediate ranges of the field could be a perfect complement for Pickens’ downfield ability. Meyers has lined up in the slot on roughly 40% of his snaps this season, but can also play on the perimeter."

The Raiders currently sit at 2-6, placing them at the bottom of their division with playoff hopes dwindling rapidly. What began as a promising season has quickly turned sour, especially after trading away star wide receiver Davante Adams. Now, with their second-best wideout potentially on the move, the team faces a critical moment in their season.

"Even better, Meyers wouldn’t be a one-year solution for the Steelers," Robinson wrote. "They’d owe the 28-year-old a little over $3 million for the rest of the 2024 campaign, but they’d also have him under contract for $11 million in 2025."

Steelers Trading For Raiders' Jakobi Meyers Would Be A Big Win

If the Steelers could trade a fourth-round pick for Meyers, it would be seen as an immediate upgrade for the team. Meyers is one of the best options likely to be available at the trade deadline, and his addition would align perfectly with the Steelers’ future plans. Khan wouldn't need to worry about finding another pass catcher in the 2025 offseason, providing stability in the wide receiver room.

Moreover, the Steelers wouldn’t have to break the bank to secure Meyers, who would serve as a reliable wide receiver two behind Pickens. With the recent emergence of Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III under Wilson’s leadership, adding another weapon could elevate the offense to new heights. As the Steelers' roster begins to click on all cylinders, securing a solid wide receiver is the final piece they need to complete the puzzle.

It would be a wise move for the Steelers to pursue Meyers and bring him to the Steel City. Despite being part of a struggling team in 2024, Meyers has still managed to catch 31 passes for 325 receiving yards and score two touchdowns. Trading a fourth-round pick for him would be viewed as a significant win for Khan and the Steelers, addressing a critical need while bolstering their offensive capabilities.
