Steelers Miss Out on Potential Wide Receiver Target

You can already cross one potential Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver addition of their list, as former Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick has already found a new home.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Trade Target Tim Patrick

Patrick was released by the Broncos on Tuesday after being dangled for a trade on Monday. The Steelers were one of a number of teams that checked in on the asking price for Patrick, but decided not to pursue him.

Now a free agent because he does not have to pass through waivers, Patrick has already agreed to join the Detroit Lions’ practice squad, with the intention of working his way to the active roster, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Tim Patrick was expected to be the starting slot receiver in Denver, alongside Courtland Sutton and John Reynolds, but it appears that 2023 second-round pick Marvin Mims and fourth-round rookie Troy Franklin pushed their way into his playing time. Franklin is the college teammate of rookie quarterback Bo Nix.

Patrick is also coming off back-to-back season-ending injuries, missing all of 2022 with a torn ACL and all of 2023 with a torn Achilles. He suffered a shoulder injury this offseason and was just getting back into practice form when he was released by Denver.

The Steelers still have plenty of other options if they wish to land a free agent wide receiver or one on waivers, including Noah Brown of the Houston Texans, Justyn Ross and Kadarius Toney of the Kansas City Chiefs, Grant DuBose of the Green Bay Packers and Miles Boykin of the New York Giants.
