Steelers must trade for or sign one of these wide receivers before roster cuts

Pittsburgh shouldn't let the cutdown deadline pass without making a move for one of these receivers.

As the Steelers finalize their roster, they may have a chance to bolster their wide receiver corps. With the preseason now complete, final roster cuts are August 27 at 4:00 p.m. ET. Pittsburgh has a few gaps to fill, particularly at wide receiver.

As teams start making their cuts, rumors are swirling about some quality receivers who could be available via trade or release. Here are a few options the Steelers should consider.

John Metchie III or Noah Brown, Texans

The Texans boast a deep wide receiver group with NFL talent up and down the depth chart. However, with Houston trading for Stefon Diggs and the roster needing to be trimmed to 53, some talented WRs are likely to be on the chopping block.

If a player like John Metchie III hits the trade market, Omar Khan should be quick to make a move. Metchie, a former second-round pick, missed his rookie season after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia but returned last year in a limited role. At just 24 years old and with plenty of football ahead of him, acquiring Metchie could be a savvy move for the Steelers.

Noah Brown would also be a strong addition, coming off a solid season. While durability is a concern with Brown, his ability to block—a skill all Texans receivers are required to have—would be a valuable asset for Pittsburgh.

Tim Patrick, Broncos

Another player who’s faced some recent injuries and hasn't played in the past two seasons could still be an excellent fit for Arthur Smith's passing attack. With his 6’4” frame and ability to be a physical presence in the middle of the field, he’s a deep threat and a willing blocker—attributes that align perfectly with the Steelers' new offensive style.

Brandon Aiyuk, 49ers

Each week, it looks more likely that Brandon Aiyuk will sign a new deal with the 49ers. But now, new reports suggest that Trent Williams is willing to hold out and even miss the start of the season until his contract is resolved. The 49ers are now faced with a tough decision: prioritize paying their elite left tackle or their talented wide receiver.

If I were John Lynch, I'd prioritize Trent Williams, given that he's one of the best tackles in the league. Whether Aiyuk is traded or not will need to be decided soon, but a trade would certainly be the outcome the Steelers are hoping for instead of trading for any of these guys.
