Steelers' Offense Takes Another Hit As Rookie Roman Wilson Faces Another Concerning Setback

The Pittsburgh Steelers  have been through a gauntlet when it comes to injuries as they prepare for their Week 8 contest against the New York Giants. The defense has been decimated by injuries with both Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig  missing serious time, as well as the depth at cornerback being hurt with Cory Trice Jr. going down in Week 3. Highsmith returned and made an impact in Week 7, but the Steelers have had to fight through some adversity.

Another player that has been plagued by injury for the Steelers throughout the 2024 season has been rookie Roman Wilson. Wilson was being counted on to come in and make an immediate impact at wide receiver, but he has only been active for one game throughout his rookie year. He originally suffered a sprained ankle in training camp, but has recently been dealing with a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined.

Wilson did not practice on Thursday, which means he will likely be inactive once again when the Steelers take on the Giants on Monday Night Football. It has been reported that Wilson suffered a setback with his hamstring injury when he was practicing on Wednesday, which isn't a good sign for the rookie who is trying to solidify his spot on this team.

The rookie seems to be fully recovered from his ankle injury that he suffered during training camp, but the hamstring issue continues to bother him. These soft tissue injuries are difficult to come back from, as they are easy to re-aggravate which oftentimes makes the situation worse.

Steelers Have Improved At Wide Receiver

Pittsburgh has a clear number one wide receiver in George Pickens, but they have struggled to find production behind him at the position. Many hope Wilson will help with that once he is able to return, but that doesn't seem like it will happen any time soon. He hasn't been able to really practice, which is concerning for a rookie trying to find his footing in the NFL.

The Steelers saw Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III make a decent impact in the victory over the New York Jets in Week 7, as Jefferson scored his first touchdown of the year. Despite the receivers behind Pickens finally taking a step forward, the team and fan base are eagerly awaiting the rookie to take the field and make an impact.
