As the Pittsburgh Steelers continue their pursuit of free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the clock is also ticking on him to get onto the field and start building a rapport with his would-be teammates.
For one of those teammates, Rodgers' absence from the team during OTAs might start becoming a problem.
Speaking to the media this week, Steelers starting center Zach Frazier stopped short of guessing who he'll be snapping the ball to in 2025. But he did have a rather telling statement, asserting that "chemistry is important."
“It’s not up to me, so I don’t really know,” Frazier said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Chemistry is important, I’ll say that.”
As much as the New York Jets had to deal with when traded for Aaron Rodgers just two years ago, they at least had him in the building before the NFL Draft and he was already making connections in the locker room well before training camp even if he wasn't taking every snap in OTAs.
This time though, Rodgers is taking so long to finally sign on the dotted line (if he ever plans to) that he won't even get his playbook until training camp.
And with Rodgers joining a team that not only has a lot of new faces, but unfamiliar faces to him, that could be a problem.
Lest we forget, the Jets filled their roster and even the coaching staff with people Rodgers had a rapport with prior to even trading for him. They added more after they got him.
Suffice it to say, the Steelers aren't showing any real urgency with trying to get Rodgers in the building and the feeling appears to be mutual.
Will Rodgers sign with the Steelers, or is the window for the two sides to reach a deal closing too quickly?
