Many of those in Pittsburgh who cheer on the black and gold have grown to despise Myles Garrett. Maybe he hasn't had as great of a career as T.J. Watt, but he has been enjoying a lucrative resume. He is coming off of a Defensive Player of the Year award, despite many criticizing that victory. With how the Browns season continues to fall off a cliff, it seems like Garrett won't repeat with that award.
Cleveland sits towards the bottom of the NFL standings while the Steelers are pushing for a playoff appearance. Many rumors have emerged out of Pittsburgh about different trade targets coming to the Steelers, especially at the wide receiver position. One would have to imagine that the black and gold will find a way to add an upgrade or two on their roster before the deadline passes on November 5.
Who knows if the Browns will sell any of their assets before the deadline, or how many players they would be willing to move? They don't want to overreact, but it certainly seems like Deshaun Watson will only continue to derail future seasons for the Browns with his terrible contract.
Perhaps that will force Cleveland to trade some pieces and try to gain some draft capital to retool their roster.
No major reports have come out about the Browns potentially flirting with the idea of trading Garrett. It would be a wild thought since he is their best player. Garrett has helped them get to the playoffs and win in the postseason too. There have been better days within the Browns organization, but there have also been far worse. He remains one of the best edge rushers in the NFL.
Garrett is currently under contract through the 2026 season, which could be hard to navigate in trade negotiations. If he is Cleveland's version of the Steelers Watt, then they would be crazy to move him. We know plenty of playoff-caliber teams would love to acquire Garrett, but it wouldn't be cheap. Not only would they need the cap space, but it would likely be a high asking price from the Browns.
Some teams who come to mind when looking at potential trade suitors for Garret are the Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders, Baltimore Ravens, and Chicago Bears just to name a few. The Lions are the obvious trade choice here after Aidan Hutchinson was knocked out with an injury. The rest of the teams listed need edge rushers, and a Garrett-type doesn't become available every day.
At the end of the day, any team who would even want to try a trade conversation with Cleveland regarding Garrett in a deal would have to offer a lot. It would take plenty of draft picks, and probably a roster player or two to get Garrett onto another team. It is a tricky trade to pull off because of cap issues too. He will likely remain with the Browns and remain a pain on the Steelers' side for at least this season.
