Steelers' Pat Freiermuth Gives Fans Strong Hint About Aaron Rodgers Coming To Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the topic of conversation throughout the 2025 offseason as the team does not currently have a starting quarterback for the upcoming season on the roster. The organization is the frontrunner to land Aaron Rodgers, but the veteran is taking his time as he decides between coming to Pittsburgh, playing with the New York Giants, or retiring. All three things still seem to be possible, as could another team sweeping in to sign him, like the Minnesota Vikings.

It remains unclear when Rodgers will make his final decision, as there has been no timeline announced and it seems as though the veteran is being very meticulous in his decision making. This is the first time he has had the ability to test free agency in his career, and it will probably be the last. He is known to care about his legacy, so this is an important chapter of his life, which makes the decision extremely meaningful to him.

Fans in Pittsburgh have been kept on the edge of their seats for weeks, and several conflicting reports have appeared about the future of the quarterback. It is safe to say no one knows what he is feeling besides him, although Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth went on 93.7 The Fan on Tuesday, and he was asked if he has been in contact with Rodgers.

"Ah, yeah, yeah, I've been in contact," Freiermuth said. "It's not his phone number. I've just been DM'ing him on Instagram. It hasn't gotten past the DM phase."

It is a good sign that there are players in Pittsburgh who have already been in contact with Rodgers. Freiermuth shared that he and the quarterback have exchanged multiple messages on Instagram, which is another sign that points to Rodgers likely signing in Pittsburgh. That paired with Rodgers' extended visit to the Steelers facility last Friday should make fans fairly optimistic about the quarterback position for the 2025 season.

Freiermuth is coming off of his best season in the NFL as the tight end recorded 65 catches for over 650 yards and seven touchdowns. It was an incredibly balanced year for the tight end, and those numbers should increase if a player like Rodgers is able to come into the fold. Freiermuth did go on to say that he doesn't think anyone knows what is going to happen with Rodgers, so by no means is it a sure thing that the quarterback will be wearing the black and gold in 2025. The tight end has gotten extremely inconsistent quarterback play throughout his career as he has had a different starter in every season.

Steelers Could Provide Aaron Rodgers With The Best Tight End Play Of His Career

Rodgers has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL throughout his career, but he has never been able to play with a truly great tight end. The best tight end he arguably ever shared the field with while he was with the Green Bay Packers was Jermichael Finley, and the best season the two had together included 55 connections for 767 yards and eight touchdowns. Rodgers didn't have much notable tight end production during his time with the New York Jets, and he and Freiermuth could make a great duo.

It isn't unreasonable to think that Rodgers and Freiermuth could come up with more production than that. The tight end is a great red zone target, and he is able to gain extra yards with his legs. There has been countless moments where Freiermuth has been open over the middle of the field and the quarterback has missed him, and that is something that will likely not happen with Rodgers under center.
