Fields suffered the injury against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15. He was injured when he was running a read-option play and was hit late as he was sliding by Eagles safety Reed Blankenship.

Fields did not practice on Monday and was limited on Tuesday before being listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game.

Field was also not dressed against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, with Kyle Allen serving as the team’s backup quarterback. Allen is once again expected to be the team’s backups quarterback against the Chiefs, though Fields will dress as the emergency third quarterback this week.

After serving as the Steelers’ starting quarterback for the first six games of the season while Russell Wilson dealt with a calf injury, Fields has been used primarily as a change-of-pace running option since. Fields has rushed 62 times this season for 289 yards and five touchdowns. His 4.7 yards per carry average is the best on the team and he’s tied with Najee Harris for the most touchdown runs.

Fields was the only Steelers player with a questionable designation for Wednesday’s game. Safety DeShon Elliott, cornerback Donte Jackson, linebacker Tyler Matakevich, defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi and wide receiver George Pickens are all expected to play, while cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and wide receiver Ben Skowronek are out.

Kansas City has two questionable players. Defensive tackle Chris Jones is not expected to dress after suffering a calf injury last week. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor remains questionable to play.
