The Pittsburgh Steelers are awaiting a decision from quarterback Aaron Rodgers on where the 41-year-old NFL veteran will land for the upcoming season. After a six hour long visit with the Steelers at their facility, one would think Rodgers is close to making a decision. However, a week from the Steelers and Rodgers' visit, the two parties haven't yet come to an agreement. Given the lackluster state of Pittsburgh's quarterback room, the Steelers need an answer from Rodgers soon, or at least before the 2025 NFL Draft, so the team can move on with a new quarterback if Rodgers isn't interested. When can Rodgers be expected to make up his mind? According to one Steelers reporter, Rodgers may have already made a decision.
Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly appeared on 93.7 The Fan on Friday and discussed a timeline for Rodgers to decide where he wants to land.
"He has to know deep down inside what he wants to do," said Kaboly. "It's just a matter of if it is Pittsburgh, then why would you wait? Is he waiting for something better to come along? He has to know. This is just a matter of how he goes about his business."
Kaboly said that Rodgers isn't a normal person, and that no one can really predict what he does and why he does it. Anyone else in Rodgers' position would have made up their minds weeks ago, especially given the increasingly limited options.
Kaboly went on to say that the Steelers shouldn't be worried that Rodgers may be taking a while, and that the quarterback's hesitance to sign with the team doesn't mean that he doesn't like them. On a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Pat McAfee and AJ Hawk discussed Rodgers' feelings towards Pittsburgh, and that he actually may love the organization.
"I don't think you can put pressure on a guy like Aaron Rodgers," Kaboly said. "He's going to do his own time frame. I don't think they're worried about him."
Regarding what exactly is taking Rodgers so long, not even Kaboly had an answer, other than that he is Rodgers. It may seem like a cop out answer, but it may be the best answer anyone is going to get on what's going on inside the quarterback's head.
A more unlikely scenario for Rodgers has also been thrown around: could he wait until after the draft to see if any opportunities arise? If Rodgers does make it known that he is waiting for the draft, will the Steelers save a spot for him on the roster even after drafting fresh players?
"I don't think that anything Aaron Rodgers does will dictate what they do in the draft," said Kaboly. "I mean, it's not like you're talking about a 28-year-old guy. You're talking about a 41-year-old guy who has one year left in him at max."
Both of Pittsburgh's starting quarterbacks from last season, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, became free agents in 2025 and have signed with new teams. The only quarterback-related move the Steelers have made so far is re-signing Steelers veteran Mason Rudolph.
Steelers Will Continue To Wait On Rodgers
The Steelers a banking heavily on Rodgers, considering how patiently they have waited for him to make his decision. If he has already made up his mind, the Steelers organization is hoping it's to sign with them. If Rodgers ends up signing with an entirely different team or retires, the Steelers will be in an awkward position.
Should the Steelers turn to the draft to solve their quarterback woes, they won't be met with a much easier situation. The upcoming draft has a thin quarterback crop, and the talented quarterbacks there will likely be drafted quickly. To land a franchise quarterback in the draft would mean trading up.
