The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new-look quarterback room heading into the 2025 NFL season.
With a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Steelers selected reigning national-champion Ohio State quarterback Will Howard — adding him to a depth chart featuring veteran backups Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.
The Steelers recently landed their QB1 for the upcoming season, signing four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.
Howard got a chance to work with Rodgers for the first time at Steelers minicamp this past week. The rookie signal caller is clearly looking forward to learning from the NFL veteran.
“He’s been so awesome to me so far,” Howard said, via Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Obviously we’ve only gotten to be together for about three days, but I got a really good feeling about him and about this whole QB room. I think we already in this past week meshed really well, hit it off. I think we got a good vibe, good group. Aaron has been so willing to help me. He’s like, ‘Literally, as much or as little as you want me to help you, I’ll be there.’ He’s already given me tips, little things here and there — in the meeting room, on the field, in my drops, different little things. Obviously I can’t do the things that he can do mechanically, so I don’t want to replicate that too much because that’s pretty unique. But, for the most part, everything I can learn from that guy is invaluable. So I’m like as much as you want to pour into me.”
Will Howard says Aaron Rodgers has been a great mentor to him over the course of this week. Rodgers has been giving Howard tips:
“When he says it, he’s like, ‘I don’t want to overstep,’ I’m like, ‘dude, you’re—please, please by all means, tell me whatever you think.”
“Will’s a good kid. Thought he looked good today," Rodgers said of Howard after a minicamp workout. "I’m gonna be with him every single day and every single meeting… I’m gonna help him out as much as I can.”
The Steelers will kickoff their 2025 regular-season schedule with a Week 1 matchup against Rodgers' former New York Jets squad on Sep. 7.
