'Leave his a** in the retirement home," that's what Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott said earlier this offseason amidst the ongoing Aaron Rodgers saga.
But now that they are teammates and getting along, when asked about the initial comments, Elliott took his defensive backfield roots to commentary and started backpedaling...
DeShon Elliott calls himself a 'troll' in regards to Aaron Rodgers' comments
“I'm a troll. He's an All-Pro and he's a GOAT. He's going to be a gold jacket guy one day. Honestly, when he got here, we communicated, we talked, he's a great person and a great football player, so whoever the media's put out there is B.S. I respect him a lot. I told him that I respect him, and I apologized to him for the things I was saying about him. Honestly, he's a great man and he has a great heart, so I appreciate him and he's funny as hell.”
I think whats' of note here is all of the things that Elliott said about Rodgers regarding what he's like. It speaks to what Rodgers was saying earlier in the weekend when repsponding to Terry Bradshaw's comments about him.
Everyone has an opinion about who he is, or what he does off the field, or why he's weird, but most of those people have never met Aaron Rodgers. Because every Steeler who has talked Aaron Rodgers so far notes how much they love him.
"Terry's a legend. He's an absolute legend. He won four Super Bowls. He's had a legendary career in the media, but Terry, like a lot of people, doesn't know me,” Rodgers told Kyle Brandt reagrding Terry Bradshaw's comments in their sit-down interview. “So, he's got an idea of what he thinks about me based on what I've done, the documentary, what I've said, darkness retreat, whatever the hell you want to talk about."
How's it go? Never judge a book by it's cover? Yea, I think we are learning that with Aaron Rodgers.
