Steelers See The Perfect Trade Open Up As Disgruntled NFC Receiver Could Be On His Way Out Of Green Bay

The Pittsburgh Steelers are desperate for help on the offensive side of the ball, specifically at wide receiver. They came up short during the 2024 offseason after pursuing wide receivers like Mike Williams and Tyler Boyd in free agency. Williams and Boyd ended up elsewhere, but Pittsburgh continued to try to bring in help. The organization signed Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller, and General Manager Omar Khan  was fighting throughout training camp to land wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk from the San Francisco 49ers.

Steelers See The Perfect Trade Open Up As Disgruntled NFC Receiver Could Be On His Way Out Of Green Bay

Now that the organization has a few games under its belt in 2024, it is clear and obvious that everyone was right to be worried about the wide receiver position going into the year. The Steelers desperately need a wide receiver to pair with George Pickens  in order to take the offense to the next level. One receiver that may be an option is Romeo Doubs of the Green Bay Packers, who is reportedly unhappy with his role on his current team.

This news was reported by Bill Huber, who is a beat writer for the Packers. Green Bay has been ruling Doubs out due to a personal matter, but it seems that personal matter could possibly be the wide receiver being unhappy with his role in the offense. This is a shame for Green Bay, as unlike the Steelers, they are seeing the effects of having too many good receivers on a roster.

Doubs is a young and promising receiver in the NFL. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has had a solid first two seasons. The receiver had a solid rookie year despite not seeing the field much, and he excelled while playing in every game during his second season in 2023.

Unfortunately for Doubs, there are many quality receivers on the Packers' roster, which means targets are limited. Aside him are guys like Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks. Their quarterback Jordan Love targets Reed and Wicks a lot, and Watson is a physically dominating receiver with elite route-running. This makes Doubs the odd man out, and it could make sense for him to be dealt before the trade deadline on November 5th, even though Watson is injured.

The receiver isn't on track to play in Week 5, as he has missed multiple days of practice. He is currently under contract through the 2025 season, and the Packers would probably be pretty greedy when it came to trade compensation. In 2023, Doubs played agaist the Steelers and caught a touchdown and recorded 31 yards.

Steelers Have Many Options To Help Their Offense At The Upcoming Trade Deadline

There is no excuse if Khan doesn't find a way to land a quality receiver at the trade deadline. There are a few high-end names available, including Davante Adams who the Steelers have already expressed interest in. There also could be players like Doubs available, who are less accomplished, but have shown enough to take a big risk on.

Pittsburgh has been reported as the "most aggressive" team in the pursuit of Adams, but Doubs might make more sense. He is obviously younger which plays a factor, but he is also less likely to clash with Pickens. Doubs is fighting with three other guys in Green Bay for targets, so coming to Pittsburgh and only having to worry about Pickens is a huge step up. Doubs is much more realistic than Adams, and if he becomes a distraction to the Packers, he may be dealt sooner rather than later.
