After being held out for the first few weeks of the 2024 NFL season with a calf injury, quarterback Russell Wilson finally made his Pittsburgh Steelers debut in Week 7's edition of "Sunday Night Football."
Wilson's first game in black and gold couldn't have gone much better, as the Steelers defeated Davante Adams and the new-look New York Jets 37-15. Pittsburgh now sits at 5-2 and is in first place in the AFC North.
With the Nov. 5 trade deadline approaching, the Steelers look like a very well-rounded team, especially with the insertion of Wilson into the lineup. However, there is one major deficiency in their offense that they could look to fix over the next couple of weeks.
Aside from George Pickens, the Pittsburgh wide receiver core has been subpar. In fact, the former Georgia Bulldogs star is the only wideout on the team with more than 11 catches so far in 2024.
Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley believes he has the perfect fix for the Steelers' wide receiver woes. In a trade prediction, Buckley predicts the Steelers will land Jets wide receiver Mike Williams following their addition of Adams.
"Between Adams, Wilson, Breece Hall and Allen Lazard, there are many other mouths to feed in this passing offense," Buckley wrote. "The Pittsburgh Steelers, who coincidentally thumped the Jets on Sunday night, might see Williams as their badly needed second option alongside George Pickens."
In his first season in New York, Williams hasn't seen the ball come his way as often as he would have hoped. Playing in all seven of the Jets' games, the former Clemson Tigers standout has recorded only 11 catches for 160 yards. But, with the addition of Adams to pair with 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, Williams' playing time will likely decrease if he were to remain in the Big Apple.
During his eight-year NFL career, Williams has recorded 320 catches for 4,966 yards and 31 touchdowns. This includes two 1,000-yard seasons and a ten-touchdown season.
Williams was selected with the No. 7 pick in the 2017 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. After seven seasons in California, the Chargers released the 30-year-old following the 2023 season. Williams was let go despite having one year remaining in the three-year, $60M contract extension he signed back in 2022.
In March, Williams signed a one-year deal with the Jets worth up to $15M.
