Stefon Diggs Predicted to Pair With $220 Million QB in NFL Free Agency

Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs was limited to just eight starts in 2024 after tearing his ACL against the Indianapolis Colts in their 23-20 Week 8 win.

In that time, though, he was still an effective piece of the offense, accumulating 47 receptions, 496 yards and three touchdowns.

Despite general manager Nick Caserio's appearance on SportsRadio 610's "Payne & Pendergast," stating that "the door is always open" on a potential return for Diggs, an extension has not been agreed on, and he's set to hit the open market.

That means he will be free to sign with any team with free agency starting March 12, and Jacob Camenker of USA Today predicts he will end up with the Green Bay Packers.

"Diggs might not be a true No. 1 receiver anymore, but the Packers should still be intrigued by his availability," Camenker wrote. "His inside/outside versatility would allow the team to change his and Jayden Reed's alignment to create advantageous matchups while taking some pressure off the oft-injured Christian Watson to play every snap."

That would pair him up with quarterback Jordan Love, who is gearing up to enter the second season of a four-year, $220 million contract.

Diggs would also bring support to a wide receiver group that didn't produce big numbers in 2024, with the most efficient player being Reed, who had 55 receptions, 857 yards and six touchdowns.

If he can return to being the player who earned four straight Pro Bowl appearances from 2020 to 2023, then Diggs could be well worth the $13.5 million annually that Spotrac predicts he will make.

Stefon Diggs' Texans Future Receives Big Update on Wednesday

The Houston Texans went 10-7 and lost in the Divisional Round in 2023 and looked to build off that in Year 2 with quarterback C.J. Stroud and head coach DeMeco Ryans. Unfortunately for them, they replicated those same results in 2024, going 10-7 and losing in the Divisional Round again.

The offseason additions of running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Stefon Diggs were supposed to elevate the offense. Instead, the unit regressed, dropping from 22.2 points and 342.4 yards per game to 21.9 points and 319.7 yards per game. As a result, the team parted ways with offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik at the end of the year.

The offseason additions of running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Stefon Diggs were expected to raise the level of the offense, but instead, it took a step back, going from 22.2 points and 342.4 yards per game to 21.9 points and 319.7 yards per game. The team even fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.

Diggs’ impact was limited—he played just eight games before tearing his ACL, sidelining him for the rest of the season. Now set to hit free agency, his future in Houston remains uncertain.

However, on Wednesday, Texans general manager Nick Caserio addressed the situation on SportsRadio 610’s "Payne & Pendergast," offering some insight into Diggs’ future with the team: "The door is always open."

“We have good relationships with Stef and his representation,” Caserio said. “We enjoyed having Stef in the building. So, the door is always open. A number of players have expressed sentiments and interest in potentially returning to our team next season. We never rule anything out, so we’re going to be open-minded.”

Diggs, now 31, has shown he can still play at a high level. Before going down with an injury, the 10-year NFL veteran was pacing to reach his seventh straight 1,000-yard season.

Through eight games, the two-time NFL All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler recorded 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns.
