Stephen A. Smith blasted Jerry Jones for his handling of the Micah Parsons situation.

Contract disputes took a drastic turn when Parsons publicly requested a trade on Friday. The Dallas Cowboys star pass rusher said the team had not discussed any terms with his agent, instead claiming to have a deal in place based on an informal conversation between Parsons and Jones in March.

Dallas has shown no urgency to honor Parsons' trade request. Jones dismissed the demand as a negotiation ploy, telling Cowboys fans not to lose sleep over the All-Pro possibly leaving. On Tuesday's First Take, Smith condemned Jones' negotiation tactics.

"You're playing with this man's future. You're playing with this man's livelihood, in terms of Micah Parsons," Smith said. "Yes, he's under contract, but the reality is that you know what this man deserves. You had an idea about it, and you're playing these games.

"And why am I so disgusted with Jerry Jones about this? Because of the things that I've heard ... Do you know he hasn't spoken to Micah Parsons' agent? You're talking about, you're treating it like the discussions you had months ago with Micah Parsons was a negotiation. It wasn't a negotiation."

Smith doubted that any firm agreement was reached when Jones spoke to Parsons. The ESPN personality noted that a front office would typically avoid talking to a player and speak through his agent, not the other way around.

"That's not Micah Parsons' level of expertise," Smith said. "That brother's specialty is getting at the quarterback. That's what he does. His agent is the one that's supposed to be in front of Jerry Jones, having these discussions."

Smith called it "incredibly insulting" for Jones to act aggrieved as if Parsons backed out of a formal agreement. He believes there's a serious issue that goes beyond a typical contract standoff.

"You are not talking to his representation. You are acting like a private conversation with you and Micah Parsons was a negotiation," Smith said of Jones. "You're a multi-billion-dollar successful businessman who's negotiated on the highest of levels. Jerry Jones knows better, which means you're trying to take advantage of that young man."
