Among the 30 NBA teams, the Golden State Warriors were the only team not to sign any free agents before July 16, marking a relatively quiet offseason for the franchise. While the lack of activity has sparked concern among the fan base, Stephen Curry has faith in his team’s front office to assemble a competitive team for the 2025-26 season.
Curry broke his silence on Golden State’s quiet offseason while at the American Century Championship in South Lake Tahoe, where he participated in the annual celebrity golf tournament.
“We talk. We have communication,” Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole of the team’s offseason moves. “I know what’s going on to the point where I have a lot of confidence in our ability to put together a winning team next year. That’s all I want.”
The 11-time All-Star is particularly confident in his team, given that they finished the season with a 23-8 record — after acquiring Jimmy Butler III. The Warriors seemed primed to make a deep postseason run before Curry suffered a hamstring injury in the second-round series against the Timberwolves.
Warriors Ended Season on a High
Curry believes the team can pick up where it left off and sustain its winning ways.
“I mean, we’ll talk about X’s and O’s and the philosophy of how this particular team that’s coming in next year needs to play to win, and that’ll evolve over the course of training camp and the 82-game schedule,” Curry said.
“Right now, it’s everybody taking advantage of an unfortunately longer offseason to get refreshed and rejuvenated, mentally and physically. Our last 35 games and the playoffs felt like a full-on sprint.”
The four-time NBA champion expressed excitement about playing next to Butler again, a year after the two stars developed chemistry.
“We know how to win; we know how to play; pieces fit,” Curry said. “We’ll kind of commit to that and embrace the challenge of trying to climb the mountaintop again.”
Can Warriors Compete for NBA Title?
Golden State’s quiet offseason has been primarily impacted by their inability to find a new home for restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga. The fifth-year forward reportedly has numerous suitors, but limited cap space around the league has made it challenging for the Warriors to execute a sign-and-trade transaction.
The Warriors are also said to be in the market for a new starting center, thereby allowing Draymond Green to slip back to his natural position of power forward. The need for a center amplified when longtime big Kevon Looney departed as a free agent.
Former Celtics star Al Horford has been heavily linked to the Warriors, with the expectation that he will eventually sign with the team, joining Curry and Co.
Curry is excited at the prospect of Horford joining the team, per The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.
Steph Curry asked about the idea of Al Horford joining the Warriors: “He’s a champion, great player. When…if, when all that stuff happens, I’ll talk about it.”

According to ESPN’s Marc Spears, the Warriors are not the only team pursuing the services of Horford, a former five-time All-Star.
“What’s going to happen with Horford? Golden State expected him to sign last week, he didn’t,” Spears told ESPN’s “NBA Today” on July 14 . “The Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee and Atlanta I believe are also interested in the nearly 40-year-old guy, who also has retirement on the table. He’s still considering retiring, he’s not in any hurry.”
