The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2024 season with Super Bowl aspirations, but will be lucky to even pull off a winning season at this point.
After a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the Cowboys sit at 3-6 on the season and might not have star quarterback Dak Prescott for the remainder of the campaign. The offense under backup quarterback Cooper Rush - and Trey Lance to some degree - looked anemic as they racked up six measly points in a 34-6 loss.
Following the team's brutal start to the season, executive Stephen Jones, the son of owner Jerry Jones, spoke about the team's lack of success. He pointed to the consecutive 12-win seasons, but admitted the 2024 campaign has been "disappointing."
"I just think we have to look at how we get better. And that's what we'll continue to do. We've had a good run where we won 12 games (in three consecutive seasons). I think only Kansas City did a better job. But at the same time, we didn't have the success in the postseason that we wanted," Jones said, via Cowboys reporter Jon Machota.
"And then, of course, to have this situation happen is certainly disappointing. It's disappointing for anybody who follows the Cowboys, who thinks about the Cowboys as their team. They deserve better than that, and we'll continue to look for ways to improve upon that."
ESPN's Adam Schefter suggested he doesn't think Dak Prescott will play again this season, leaving the team in a tough spot. The Cowboys would like need to win out in order to secure a playoff spot, but that will be nearly impossible without their star quarterback.
Up next for Dallas is an in-state battle against the Houston Texans on Monday night.
