Dylan Strome was in high spirits as he made his return to MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Monday, where informal skates continue ahead of Washington Capitals training camp.
Strome joined Hershey Bears forward Garrett Roe and South Carolina Stingrays forward Ryan Leibold as the latest to join the Capitals' on-ice workouts.
Pierre-Luc Dubois, Matt Roy, John Carlson, Jakub Vrana, Alex Alexeyev, Vincent Iorio, Alex Limoges and Logan Thompson were also on the ice, along with former Capitals winger Anthony Mantha and an assortment of other up-and-coming players like Ayo Adeniye and Eric Charpentier.
The skate started off with some drills and 2-on-2 small-area gameplay before transitioning into a scrimmage. Dubois showcased some nifty moves, Iorio moved the puck very well and Roy showed off his edge work and awareness. Meanwhile, Adeniye is a name to watch; he continues to put in maximum effort and is making himself at home in D.C.
Later, the real work got underway as the group practiced skating from goal line to goal line in preparation for training camp's infamous skate test.
Dubois led the pack almost effortlessly, as his speed was on full display. Vrana also led his group in the session and continues to appear confident as he faces fierce competition and what's sure to be a challenge to get back to being a full-time NHL player.
Washington will kick off training camp in mid-September, and more players are expected to join informal skates before then in Arlington. Alex Ovechkin is also set to return in early September.
