It was reported at the NFL Combine that the Dallas Cowboys will be in the market for a new wide receiver this offseason, ideally one that can start opposite CeeDee Lamb.
The Cowboys hope that Jonathan Mingo can step into a prominent role next season, but he hasn't taken any reps with Dak Prescott yet. It would be reckless to go into 2025 with just Mingo, Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Brooks on the depth chart behind Lamb.
While this year's draft is not deep at the position, the free agency class offers some intriguing options. A number of WRs are traded seemingly every offseason, too. D.K. Metcalf, who requested a trade out of Seattle, Tee Higgins, and Cooper Kupp, are all names to watch in that regard.
Sure enough, a receiver trade went down on Thursday when the Texans acquired Christian Kirk from the Jaguars for a 2026 seventh-round pick in a rare inner-division trade. Kirk was expected to get released by Jacksonville, so this deal was very much unexpected.
That sound you hear is the door opening ever so slightly for the Cowboys to reunite Trevon Diggs with his older brother, Stefon.

The Texans may look to add another receiver this offseason, whether it be through free agency or the draft.
In the meantime, though, going into 2025 with star Nico Collins, Kirk in the WR2 role and John Metchie and Xavier Hutchinson rounding out the depth chart may convince Houston to move on from Diggs, who is an impending free agent coming off a torn ACL.
Kirk is set to make $16.5 million on the final year of his contract next season. The Texans are already paying Collins $24.25 million per year as well. Tank Dell will be back from his devastating knee injury in 2026, so it's not like the WR room will be in dire straights next offseason.
ESPN previously reported that the Texans were open to re-signing Diggs on a team-friendly deal. While Diggs enjoyed catching passes from C.J. Stroud, a team-friendly deal probably isn't what he's looking for. He was on pace to catch 100 passes for over 1,000 yards and six touchdowns before his knee injury.
Do the Cowboys need that much production behind Lamb? Probably not. But they haven't had a consistent WR2 since Amari Cooper's final season in 2021.
Diggs shouldn't be the be all end all for Dallas at WR this offseason. Don't get that twisted. Someone like Marquis "Hollywood" Brown makes a lot of sense give his ability to play outside and relationship with Lamb.
However, the Diggs-Cowboys discourse has been storyline each of the last two offseasons. This is the one year it actually has a chance of happening.
