Washington Capitals general manager Chris Patrick and forward T.J. Oshie released statements today about the forward’s future regarding the 2024-25 season. Oshie completed his medical exam today, and he was listed as injured. It is expected that the Capitals will place him on long-term injury reserve (LTIR) during this upcoming campaign.

“The last season was challenging for me, my family, and my teammates as I dealt with a chronic back injury that kept me out of the lineup. I have used the offseason to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury. I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. In the meantime, I will continue to help and support my teammates and the organization in any way I can. I greatly appreciate all of our fans’ support during this time.”

T.J. Oshie’s Contributions for the Capitals
T.J. Oshie has been a member of the Capitals since the 2015-16 season. He was acquired by then-GM Brian MacLellan from the St. Louis Blues through trade on July 2, 2015. He registered 192 goals and 193 assists for 385 points in 567 games. Oshie was a crucial part of the offense during the team’s run to their 2018 Stanley Cup championship. During that postseason run, T.J. Oshie scored eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 24 games.
Oshie’s best campaign in D.C. to this point was in 2016-17. In 68 games that season, he accrued 56 points (33 goals and 23 assists). Last season, he scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists for 25 points in 52 games. He recently hit the 1,000-game milestone on March 16 in Vancouver against the Canucks. Oshie became the 12th player in the organization’s history to reach the mark as a member of the Capitals.
