Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan enters a crucial campaign looking to kick off a new era in Nashville.
After a 3-14 campaign that earned the Titans the No. 1 overall pick, Callahan was able to get his guy in quarterback Cam Ward. While that won't solve all of the Titans' issues going into 2025, it certainly helps to have some direction at the game's most important position.
But Callahan himself has a lot to prove going into his second season at the helm, as he was ranked 24th among the NFL's 25 returning head coaches in 2025, according to Brandon Austin of Pro Football Network.
With Mason Rudolph and Will Levis at quarterback, the expectations were low, and even those were barely met last season. Callahan’s coaching debut was reasonably uneventful, which raises even more questions.
Help could be on the way, though, as Tennessee landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which the front office used on Cam Ward. Now, the Titans have their potential franchise quarterback in place, which could offer some stability for Callahan heading into Year 2.
This season will be far more telling as to what kind of head coach Callahan is. While his seat isn’t hot yet, you can never get too comfortable in the NFL.
It's no surprise that Callahan is ranked this low on the list of head coaches. The Titans had plenty of issues outside of the quarterback room, and it's never easy for a first-year head coach to take over a rebuilding program.
With that said, Callahan has to at least show that the Titans are moving in the right direction. He and first-year general manager Mike Borgonzi spent the offseason building around the eventual selection of Ward at No. 1 overall.
Expectations should be low in terms of the Titans being a playoff contender right away, but if they can show some positive movement during the second half of the season, Callahan could be higher on the list this time next year.
