Terry McLaurin Contract Update as Commanders Biggest Priority An Easy Fix

You will be hard-pressed to find a player who has been as consistent as Terry McLaurin has been, given the revolving door at the quarterback position and the off-field issues that have surrounded the Washington Commanders since he arrived.

A consummate professional, "Scary Terry" has consistently produced 1,000-yard seasons (five in a row) and is coming off a career-best 13 touchdowns in 2024, as he and Jayden Daniels developed a good rapport.

Now set to play out the final year of his contract, McLaurin needs to be paid and recognized for his service to the franchise during its darkest times. We think it is only a matter of time before pen is put to paper.

And NFL.com's Kevin Patra thinks an extension should be Washington's biggest priority.

"McLaurin is set to earn $15.5 million in base salary in 2025, on the final season of a three-year extension worth $23.2 million per year -- which is obsolete in today's wideout market, where eight players are earning $30 million-plus annually," Patra writes.

"McLaurin has proven to be one of the most consistent and dynamic wideouts in the NFL, having generated five consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns. The Commanders know what McLaurin means to the offense and the club. Paying him now (particularly while Daniels is on an affordable rookie contract) makes far too much sense."

With just over $21 million in cap space per Over The Cap, the Commanders might have to do some reshuffling of their books to get a deal done for Terry, but given what he means not only to the players, but also the fan base, it would be tough to see a deal not get done.

Granted, this is the NFL, so never say never, but McLaurin deserves to be paid, and paid well, which would likely put him in the upper echelon of receivers in the NFL.

Exactly what the number will be is unknown, but McLaurin should be expecting a sizeable raise from his current $22.7 APY deal.

And no one can say he wouldn't deserve it.
