As the Houston Texans start training camp, here are updates on key injuries.
Jimmie Ward: Not Yet Cleared for Football Work
Jimmie Ward (foot) has not yet been cleared to resume football activities but has resumed running, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Ward missed the final two games of the regular season last year and the Texans’ two playoff contests. He needed foot surgery and is still in the rehab phase. Ward sounds likely to start training camp on the active/PUP list. He’s also dealing with a legal matter, with a court date scheduled for August 13.
Joe Mixon: Limited Reps Early in Camp
Joe Mixon, who is progressing well in his recovery from an ankle injury, is likely to be eased back into the mix in training camp, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Mixon sported a walking boot this spring after getting hurt during individual offseason training, but since then the running back has regained his mobility while ramping up his workouts. Though he could be limited to a degree early on in training camp, when 100 percent healthy he’s in line to maintain his status as the top option in a Houston backfield that added Nick Chubb this offseason and returns Dameon Pierce.
The backfield also includes 2025 fourth-rounder Woody Marks and Dare Ogunbowale. In 14 regular-season games with Houston in 2024, Mixon carried 245 times for 1,016 yards and 11 TDs to go along with a 36/309/1 receiving line. Looking ahead, the 28-year-old appears poised to maintain steady usage in 2025, with the presence of Chubb, health permitting, providing Mixon with a viable veteran complement to spell his workload.
Brevin Jordan: Progressing in ACL Recovery
Brevin Jordan (knee) is running at “high speeds” but is expected to be eased back in at training camp, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Jordan suffered a torn ACL in Week 2 last season and missed the remainder of the year. Now 10 months out from the injury, Jordan should be close to 100 percent health by the time Week 1 rolls around. Jordan figures to be in line to handle TE2 duties in Houston behind Dalton Schultz.
