The Texans and former team president Greg Grissom have parted ways.
Just days after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-14 in the divisional round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs, the Houston Texans have made a move at the top of their football team, involving team president Greg Grissom, per Ian Rapoport on X.
“The #Texans and team president Greg Grissom have parted ways,” Rapoport wrote.
Now, this was actually an edited post, as Rapoport signified that Grissom got fired before the edit.
But, with the Texans' verbiage of saying they “amicably parted ways” with the team's former president, there's a bit of confusion on what actually happened.
Well, regardless of the reasoning, Grissom is no longer with the team as the Texans begin their search for a new team president—if one isn't already in place.
Heading into the 2024 season, the Texans were a highly respected franchise, both by those within the league and fans outside of the insider bubble.
And although the Texans' ending to the 2024 season wasn't exactly how they would've drawn it up, they went down swinging to one of the top teams in the AFC: The Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes is a tough competitor no matter when teams play him, but it's especially true against him in the playoffs.
So, while the Texans' loss was certainly a bummer to those within the franchise, Grissom and the team parting ways seems like something a little deeper than football.
Until the facts come out, there's no real sense in speculating further than that.
Grissom became the team's president in March 2021. He oversaw business operations, specializing in communications, marketing, social and digital media, community relations, ticket sales, event management, and more. Essentially, Grissom oversaw all of the Texans' business operations.
Along with the Texans, Grissom oversaw Lone Star Sports & Entertainment, which oversaw mostly college football and international soccer events. He appears to still be involved with LSS&E at this time.
