Bucs rookie wide receiver Tez Johnson is stoked the Bucs drafted him. And part of that passion is that he’s matched with a quarterback who has just as much passion for the game as he does.
Soon, both Johnson and Mayfield will be on the same practice fields behind One Buc Palace. And Johnson believes he’s a good match for Mayfield, just by watching Mayfield on TV.
“That fire, that passion he plays with,” Johnson said. “You can just tell the Buccaneers, everyone on the team plays with that fire.
“Even Mike Evans, to this day, he plays with a chip on his shoulder. Eleven consecutive seasons with 1,000 yards, you don’t get that too often.
“Baker Mayfield carrying [Nick] Bosa on his shoulder, throws the ball still. That’s the fire.”
And Johnson said he can tell Mayfield’s personality has rubbed off teammates.
“There are so many guys on this team that play with that chip. I think quarterbacks just love that.”
So when did Johnson realize that Mayfield is his kind of quarterback?
“I see him taking smelling salts before the game,” Johnson said. “Yeah, he’s wired.”
Joe noticed in the comments about Johnson why Johnson is getting so much run. Well, the guy plays with passion, and was electric on the field for Oregon. Additionally, Johnson dreamed of playing for the Bucs.
Rather than ask why Bucs fans are excited about Johnson, Joe asks, why shouldn’t Bucs fans get stoked about a guy with his skillset, his heart and his desire to help the Bucs win?
