"That’s All I’m Gonna Say": 'The Last of Us' Series Composer Just Quietly Confirmed Season 4

The Last of Us season 2 was a whiplash for fans. Despite knowing what’s coming our way, even some avid gamers were upset after Episode 2 ‘Through the Valley.’ Created by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, the Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey-led series gained mixed reactions this season. Nonetheless, Season 3 is already in the pipeline with Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby as the lead. But as per the series’ composer, Jake Staley, the series can go beyond the three-season structure most prestige TV shows opt for.

Staley’s comments are in line with what series co-creators Mazin and Druckmann revealed in February, where they hinted that the story they are telling can go beyond the third season, “I think it’s pretty likely that our story will extend past season 3. How far past? I can’t say. And that’s not to say that there are not other stories that could be told, but this story is the one that Neil and I are telling,” Mazin said. If we look at the way the series is written, each episode gives fans’ get an in-depth look at the characters, their emotions, which drives the story forward. Given Season 3 will see Abby as the lead, there’s a lot to tell from the games’ lore point of view, and it can be extended through another season.

What to Expect From ‘The Last of Us’ Season 3?

Season 2 left us on a massive cliffhanger, with a brief Abby and Ellie showdown and taking a full circle back to ‘Seattle Day 1’ in its final moments. Given Joel is dead and we’ve come all the way to Seattle with Ellie, the story is bound to now focus on its perceived villain. “I was sure that they wouldn’t let us do this when we started adapting this,” Druckmann recently said of changing the lead for Season 3. “But they’ve leaned into what makes, I believe, the story special. And allowed us not only the time but the creative freedom to be able to take these swings.”

Brace yourselves for Season 3, meanwhile, the first two seasons of The Last of Us are streaming on Max.
