Tyler Shough, newly drafted quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, seems to love standing up for his team’s city as proved by his latest appearance in the NFLPA Rookie Premiere. When former Saints wide receiver, Equanimeous St. Brown, took a pot-shot at New Orleans’ cuisine, calling it pretty much mediocre, Shough could not hold back calling him out, albeit jokingly.
Shough, despite being newly drafted into the team, already has plenty of responsibility on his shoulders, especiallysince the team’s former star quarterback, Derek Carr, announced his retirement last month. Carr’s exit from the team left a gaping hole which Shough is hoping to fill.
“Really? Dude, maybe that’s why you’re not on the team anymore.” Tyler Shough said to Equanimeous St. Brown when the latter criticized the cuisine of New Orleans.
Equanimeous St. Brown was only part of the New Orleans Saints roster for one season. However, he has not been called for another year with the team and still remains unsigned. In his most recent NFL season, when he actually got some playing time, St. Brown managed to grab five receptions for the Chicago Bears for 62 yards.
Meanwhile, Tyler Shough has been stunningly impressive in his recent appearances at the training camps. The rookie, who was bagged by the Saints in the second round of the draft, is hoping to start for the team in the upcoming season, even as Spencer Rattler is in the locker room awaiting his call-up.
Tyler Shough Is Demanding A Fully Guaranteed Rookie Deal
On another note, Tyler Shough is also showing another side of himself to the Saints franchise, a non-joking side. According to recent reports, the quarterback is demanding a fully guaranteed rookie contract, shocking everyone. Shough is a second-round pick, and fully guaranteed deals are usually not given to these players.
Last month, rookie quarterback Jayden Higgins, who was the 34th pick in the second round, was given a fully guaranteed contract, and it looks like Shough wants one of his own. When it comes to fully guaranteed deals, it is certain that NFL team owners are giving out fewer and fewer of these deals.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray’s agent fought very hard for a fully guaranteed deal, but the team owner gave one with numerous incentives, which put the deal out of Murray’s mind. According to recent leaked texts between NFL team owners, it is clear that they are not ready to dole out fully guaranteed contracts anymore, unless they are 100 percent sure about their QB.
