The production of the third season of The Last of Us may start earlier than expected. According to Production Bulletin, preparations for the filming are already underway, and the filming process is scheduled for the summer of 2025.
The filming will take place in Vancouver, Canada, where a large part of the second season has already been shot. The first season was also filmed in Canada — in Calgary and rural Alberta.
Collider publication reports announced that most of the creative team is returning to work on the third season. The directorial team will be led by series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. They will be joined by «The Heirs» director Mark Milod and «Loki» director Kate Herron.
The second season, scheduled to premiere in mid-2025, is based on the video game The Last of Us: Part II. The plot focuses on the further story of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The cast includes Caitlin Dever (Abby), Isabela Merced (Dina) and Jeffrey Wright (Isaac).
The series is produced by HBO and Sony Pictures Television in association with PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint and game developer Naughty Dog.
