'This is huge,' one fan called the news.
Fans of the original video game series that inspired HBO's The Last of Us were just treated to an "insane" surprise from Naughty Dog, the studio behind The Last of Us Part I and The Last of Us Part II.
On Tuesday, July 8, Studio Head & Head of Creative Neil Druckmann shared news of an unexpected update to the second game, offering a new play mode that some fans have been begging for since its release, allowing them to play the events of the game chronologically for the first time ever.
"Over the years, many of you have wondered, what would it be like to experience Ellie and Abby’s story in chronological order?" he revealed in the caption of a video that shared clips of the game. "Well… wonder no more! Chronological Mode is a free update available NOW on The Last of Us Part II Remastered."
Fans were undeniably enthusiastic about the news, with several already planning their next playthroughs.
"That's so cool 😍. My next run will be with this mode," one declared.
"Ive been NEEDING THIS I'm so...excited," another gushed, while another commented, "This is INSANE. Going for my 6th playthrough!!! Thank you ND!"
"This is actually sick," someone else wrote, while another looked forward to determining once and for all what the best mode of storytelling will be for the script. "This is huge."
Hopefully, that will keep fans occupied until the HBO series returns for its third season.
