The Last Of Us Is Already Hinting At How Much Ellie Will Change In Season 2

A familiar image from The Last of Us season 2’s latest trailer hints that one of Ellie’s darkest moments from the game is being directly adapted for the TV show. The new trailer for The Last of Us season 2 features a handful of familiar scenes from the game. Ellie and Dina gaze romantically at each other while dancing, Abby cautiously walks down the hospital corridor to the ominous sounds of an alarm, and Ellie and Dina desperately fend off a horde of infected in an abandoned subway station.

There’s one moment in particular that The Last of Us season 2 trailer has adapted straight from the game that hints at Ellie’s journey in the story. Ellie takes some really dark turns in The Last of Us Part II, and the final moments of the new trailer suggest that the TV show will lean into that darkness. Ellie’s pursuit of revenge drives her to do some really horrific things, and one of the most horrific things she does is teased in the trailer.

The Last Of Us Season 2 Trailer Teases Ellie's Brutal Encounter With Nora

The Shot Of Bella Ramsey In Red Light Is Familiar To Gamers

a red-hued Ellie points a gun in The Last of Us season 2

Just after the 30-second mark in the new Last of Us season 2 trailer, Bella Ramsey’s Ellie is seen holding a gun in a dark hallway illuminated by a menacing red glow. If the gun was swapped out for a pipe, this would be identical to a shot from The Last of Us Part II in which Ellie corners Nora at the hospital. As Nora slowly dies from a spore infection, the immune Ellie seizes the opportunity to torture her for Abby’s whereabouts.

The Last of Us season 2 will premiere on HBO in April.

This is a major turning point in Ellie’s journey. It goes to show just how much Joel’s death has changed her. She’s done some terrible things in her quest for revenge up to that point, but torturing Nora leaves the most lasting psychological scar. When she returns to the theater, she’s shaking. The Last of Us TV show doesn’t have spores, so it’ll have to come up with a different way for Ellie to force Nora to talk.

How Ellie Changes Following Joel's Death In The Last Of Us

Ellie's Quest For Vengeance Makes Her More Violent (But Also Remorseful)

After Joel is killed and Ellie heads to Seattle to seek revenge, she becomes a lot more violent. She slaughters her way through Wolves and Seraphites alike in her ruthless pursuit of Joel’s killer. She even uses tricks she picked up from Joel, like a sneaky torture technique. This violent transformation is driven by her desire for vengeance, but there’s also a lot of guilt. Ellie regrets neglecting Joel and not forgiving him in the years leading up to his death. There’s a lot of dramatic depth for The Last of Us season 2 to explore.
