Framed by a conversation between Catherine O'Hara's character (who is perhaps a psychiatrist) and Joel, the trailercuts back and forth between a relatively peaceful period at the Wyoming settlement, and the impending invasion by the infected hordes. Meanwhile, the specter of Joel's actions from the ending of season 1 clearly weighs on him, and it may be the wedge that drives Ellie away from him. The teaser concludes by reaffirming the 2025 release window.

The Last of Us' immediate success resulted in a quick renewal, and shortly after the show's episode 2 premiere, The Last of Us season 2 was officially renewed by HBO. It looks like there aren't any major changes in the writing room either, as Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have already begun talking about their plans for season 2 and beyond.

The Last of Us season 2 cast will feature the two returning stars. After they proved to be a hit, both Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are back following their respective Emmy nominations. With Joel and Ellie also returning to Jackson at the end of The Last of Us, Gabriel Luna has also hinted that he will be returning in season 2 to play Tommy. As he is married to Maria, it is likely that Rutina Wesley will return as well.
Other confirmed cast members include Kaitlyn Dever who has been cast as Abby Anderson, a violent soldier out for revenge, and Young Mazino's Jesse, who is a kind and generous member of the community. Additionally, Isabela Merced is joining the season 2 cast as Dina. Emmy winner Catherine O'Hara will appear in season 2, though her role has not been revealed yet. Recent Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright will be reprising his role as Isaac Dixon from The Last of Us II game.
