The Last Of Us Season 2 Episode 6 Trailer: Pedro Pascal's Return Teases Major Flashbacks, Including Ellie's Fight With Joel

Max now shares the trailer for The Last of Us season 2, episode 6, revealing that it will continue the Ellie and Joel flashback storyline set up at the end of episode 5. The trailer teases a return to happier times between Ellie and Joel at some point in the past, but that the falling out between the pair that has happened by the start of season 2 will also be explored, with some emotional moments to come.

Pascal and showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann tease more about the upcoming episode in an interview with EW. "If we've done our jobs right, you'll feel Joel there a lot," co-showrunner Craig Mazin tells the publication about season 2 as a whole. Pascal teased that there's still more Joel to come:

"Something that I guess I do feel like keeping secret is how those things will play and where they will be placed, which I think is still a lovely thing to not know for people that watch the show."

What This Means For The Rest Of The Last Of Us Season 2

Some Key Video Game Moments Are Still To Come

Joel reappears in a flashback in The Last of Us season 2 episode 5

The Last of Us season 1 ending features Joel lying to Ellie about murdering an entire hospital full of Fireflies. When season 2 picks up the action, there's a clear rift between the two characters, and the season 2, episode 6, trailer teases that how this rift formed could be a major focus next week. The trailer also teases that an event from the video game source material will seemingly be brought to life in episode 6, with Joel taking Ellie to a museum in order to see exhibits about dinosaurs and outer space.

It's also possible that episode 6 will explore another event that an early episode of The Last of Us season 2 teased. In addition to having a conflict with Ellie, Joel had a contentious dynamic with Gail (Catherine O'Hara). It's revealed that Joel killed Gail's husband, Eugene, who is set to be played in The Last of Us' cast by Joe Pantoliano. It's possible that this flashback will play out next week, or that could end up being one saved for the season 2 finale. Either way, there is clearly lots more Joel to come.

Those who played The Last Of Us Part II video game may not have been shocked by Joel's death in season 2, episode 2, but the event was still brutal and traumatic to watch play out on-screen. Pascal was a central figure throughout season 1, and there's no denying that the show feels different without Joel. The character's return in flashback form could be a welcome addition because it means the return of the familiar dynamic that helped season 1 become so popular.

It will be especially tragic to see the relationship between Joel and Ellie deteriorate knowing how it all ends.

While Pascal's returning presence in the show is itself a bonus, the tease that episode 6 will get to the bottom of a conflict that defined season 2, episode 1, is a sign that his return won't be without some strong emotional moments. It will be especially tragic to see the relationship between Joel and Ellie deteriorate knowing how it all ends. It remains to be seen exactly how Joel will factor into the next episode of The Last of Us season 2, but Pascal's time on the series is evidently not over just yet.
