A new batch of set photos for HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 drops ahead of the critically-acclaimed horror drama’s return in 2025.
The latest set photos from the Vancouver production of HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 have surfaced online, featuring Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright. This marks Wright’s newest project with the premium network, after nearly two years since Westworld was canceled after four seasons.
Last week, HBO had officially enlisted Wright to reprise his role as Isaac Dixon from Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II game. His character is described as the leader of the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), which is "a large militia group who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy." Shared on X, one of the images shows Wright in a FEDRA uniform, teasing that fans may get the chance to see his character’s origin story in the next installment. In the original game, Isaac played a significant role in Abby Anderson’s storyline.
The Last of Us hails from creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who both served as co-writers and executive producers. The next installment will feature the return of Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. HBO most recently shared the first two official photos from the new season, providing fans with a glimpse of Joel and Ellie’s Season 2 looks. For their moving performance in Season 1, Pascal and Ramsey both bagged Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively. Season 1 ends with Joel and Ellie leaving the Fireflies hospital after Joel saved her from a potential world-saving procedure that would have killed her in the process.
The Last of Us Season 2 Will Introduce New Key Characters
The Last of Us Season 2 will be based on the video game sequel The Last of Us Part II, which includes a significant time jump from the events of the first installment. According to Mazin, they intend to continue deviating from the source material, which might potentially include giving characters new endings. Joining the returning cast members in the next season are Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny, with Catherine O'Hara for an undisclosed guest-starring role. Prior to her casting as Abby, Dever was originally considered for the role of Ellie back when the live-action series was still being developed as a movie.
In a previous interview, Merced, who will be playing Ellie’s love interest Dina, hyped up her onscreen chemistry with Ramsey. "I’m so excited for people to see my chemistry with Bella. Bella and I have so much chemistry. From the first day, it was there. There’s no work to be done. I really respect Bella. I just saw Catherine Called Birdy and Bella has such range and just honesty about their work. I’m learning so much. I’m very honored to be here."
